The mum of tragic six-year-old Lucas Dobson has issued a heartbreaking tribute to him. Lucas tragically fell into the River Stour in Sandwich, Kent, on Saturday, sparking a huge search for him. Yesterday, police said a body found in the river had been formally identified as him. Lucas was swept away by a strong current after trying to jump on to a boat from a jetty while on a fishing trip with his family. His dad Nathan dived in after him but could not rescue his son. His heartbroken mum, Kirsty Furze wrote in a Facebook group dedicated to the youngster: "I'm Lucas' mum and I just want to thank each and every one of you. "I'm so thankful for donations and the food and being out all hours searching for my baby, and for the police & rescue and search team. "I can't not believe how much my baby has touched all your hearts. "He was such a beautiful boy. Lucas is looking down on everyone saying thank you in his own way. "Lucas will never ever ever be forgotten. "I'm so overwhelmed with the support I have and had and so is Lucas' dad. "I really don't know how else I could show my appreciation to you all." Mrs Furze's heartbreaking tribute come after Lucas' uncle Lewis Tolman thanked those who had helped in the search for the little lad. "I would like to say that Lucas has been found and confirmed by the hospital and parents," he wrote. "I will have more to say but I need time but I think you all know how much Kent as a community has touched my heart and the UK and even the world thank you all so much xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx." Chief Inspector Mark Weller of Kent Police broke the news that the boy found was Lucas shortly before 4pm yesterday. He said: "Following the discovery of a body in the River Stour at approximately 9.15am on Wednesday 21 August, formal identification has taken place and I can confirm the body is that of missing Lucas. "It brings an end to our search and I would like to echo Lucas' family's message of thanks to those who came out to help search for him in the last few days. "The community support we have witnessed has been heart-warming, even in the most tragic of circumstances." The accident happened when the schoolboy was attempting to climb onto a boat while on a fishing trip. He fell into the water which quickly swept him away.
